July 27th is celebrated by the Korean people as Victory over America Day and their second liberation day .In People’s Korea it is a public holiday . I remember visiting the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in July 2013 for the 60th anniversary of the victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War and seeing people enjoying picnics on July 27th . That year the public holiday for July 27th was extended to 4 days instead of 1.


 On July 27th 1953  the Yankee imperialist aggressors were forced to concede defeat by signing the Korean Armistice Agreement. General Mark Clark the US commander admitted that “"In carrying out the instructions of my government, I gained the unenviable distinction of being the first United States commander in history to sign an armistice without victory.". Indeed it was a great victory for People’s Korea , a young state with 2 years of history , over the imperialist colossus of the United States , a country that had already invaded many lands and was a victorious nation in the Second World War .


The great Fatherland Liberation War of the Korean people which is referred to as the Korean War in the US and other countries is also known as the “Unknown War “ because it was a war that they lost . The United States was unable to subdue and conquer the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). At the time the DPRK’s population was less than 1/15th the size of the US population and its military expenditure was a tiny fraction of that of the US . The DPRK not only had to face the armed forces of the US and south Korea but also the forces of 15 satellite countries of the US ; UK (to our eternal shame and dishonour)Luxemburg, Netherlands, Belgium, Greece  France, Colombia, Turkey, New Zealand ,Canada, Australia , South Africa , Ethiopia , Thailand and the Philippines not mention Japan which participated secretly in south Korean puppet uniforms and also the Jiang Jeshi Taiwanese reactionaries .The US also used biological and chemical warfare , carpet bombed the DPRK and carried out massacres of civilians .



Basically the Fatherland Liberation War was akin to the biblical story of David and Goliath with the DPRK being in the role of the boy David and the US in the role of the giant Goliath.


. The US’s own narrow and curtailed statistics for its losses in the Fatherland Liberation War showed it lost nearly the same number in 3 years in Korea as it did in 10 years in Vietnam . Overall the US imperialists lost over : 1,567,128 men including 405,498 US soldiers, 1,130,965 south Korean puppet troops, and 30,665 soldiers of their satellite states were killed, wounded or captured; 12,224 airplanes including "air fortress B-29" were downed, damaged or captured, 7,695 guns, 3,255 tanks and armoured cars were lost; and 564 warships and vessels including the heavy cruiser Baltimore and the flagship of the Seventh Fleet Missouri were sunk or damaged. The loss suffered by the US imperialists was nearly 2.3 times greater than what they had suffered in the four years of the Pacific War during World War II. It was an appalling loss and a serious military defeat unprecedented in the US history of war.


President KIM IL SUNG, the ever-victorious iron-willed brilliant commander and gifted military strategist   defined the Fatherland Liberation War as follows “The Fatherland Liberation War waged by our people was a fierce ,anti-imperialist , anti-US struggle against the allied forces of world reaction headed by US imperialism and a bitter class struggle against the enemies of the people”


The above quote aptly sums up the Fatherland Liberation War . It was a war against US imperialism and the international allied forces of reaction and world imperialism . Under the leadership of President KIM IL SUNG the Korean People’s Army and Korean people stopped US imperialism and world imperialism in its tracks . The US imperialists and other imperialists had planned not only to knock down socialism in the DPRK and colonise the DPRK but also to expand the war into a war against China and the Soviet Union . By defeating US imperialism the DPRK safeguarded the entire socialist camp and made a great contribution to the world revolutionary movement .The victory in the Fatherland Liberation War was a great victory in the worldwide war against US and world imperialism !
