Report of the Seminar “President KIM IL SUNG and self-reliance “ organised by the European Regional Committee For Friendship with the Korean People 9th of August 2025 .

To mark the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese imperialist colonial rule, an online seminar titled “President KIM IL SUNG and self-reliance “ was organised by the European Regional Committee For Friendship with the Korean People and hosted by the Korean Friendship Association of the UK . The seminar was held via Telegram at 1500 hours BST .

The online seminar attracted participants from the UK , Spain , Sweden , Germany , Croatia , Serbia , Austria , Poland ,Iceland and Denmark with guests joining from KFA Kenya , KFA Singapore and the USA and other countries .

Written contributions were received from  the president of the Korean Friendship Association  Alejandro Cao De Benos, KFA Austria , KFA Andalusia (Spain), KFA Spain , the Denmark -DPRK Friendship Association , KFA Germany , KFA Canada , KFA Croatia , KFA Kenya , KFA Italy , the Iceland -DPRK Friendship Association ,KFA France , the Poland-DPRK Association , the People’s Korea Initiative of Poland, KFA Serbia , KFA Switzerland ,the Sweden -Korean Friendship Association  KFA Bulgaria , KFA UK , KFA UK Staffordshire and KFA UK Essex .

The seminar was presided over by KFA UK Chairman Dr Dermot Hudson, secretary general of the European Regional Committee For Friendship with the Korean People .

The seminar started with the immortal revolutionary hymn “ The Song of General KIM IL SUNG “.

A congratulatory message from the Korean Association for Cultural Exchange with Foreign Countries and Korea Associations for Friendship with European Countries was read out by Dr Dermot Hudson.

The keynote address was given by Christer Lundgren, chairman of the European Regional Committee for Friendship with the Korean People and chairman of the Sweden -Korea Friendship Association . He said (in part ) “Self-reliance means to establish Juche everywhere.

President Kim Il Sung felt that submission to the stronger and reliance on foreign powers is the main reason for national ruin. He therefore put forward the idea of the country’s independence by the efforts of the Korean nation itself, and led the arduous Anti-Japanese War to victory, putting an end to the history of humiliation of the Korean nation.”

The speech of KFA President Alejandro Cao De Benos was read out by  Dr Dermot Hudson . Comrade Alejandro’s speech concluded with a rallying call “Let us honour his memory by upholding the principles of self-reliance,defending DPRK's sovereignty, and advancing toward a brighter socialist future “

The speech of Dr Dermot Hudson emphasised that “Today’s self-reliant socialist People’s Korea led by Marshal KIM JONG UN  is the precious fruit of the great teachings of President KIM IL SUNG on self-reliance .”

Speeches were then made by representatives of KFA Andalusia (Spain ), KFA Austria , KFA Croatia , the Denmark -DPRK Friendship Association, KFA Germany , the Poland-DPRK Association , KFA Serbia , KFA UK Staffordshire and the Iceland -DPRK Friendship Association.

Guest speeches were made by KFA Singapore and KFA Kenya.

A letter to respected Marshal KIM JONG UN was read out and then adopted by the seminar .

An appeal to the World Progressive People to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the foundation of the Workers Party of Korea was adopted .

An emergency resolution condemning Ulchi Freedom Shield August 2025 was adopted .

The short documentary “DPR Korea - Democratic Reforms after Liberation from Japanese Colonial Rule” was shown .
